  4. February 28, 1994 Apple will begin publishing support information to the
  5. Internet, launching Apple’s initiative to publish support information to many
  6. online services over the next few months.
  7.  
  8. Apple will publish support information, including a subset of the Tech Info
  9. Library (all articles for the general public added or updated since February 1,
  10. 1994), and Apple software updates to the Home Gopher Server at the University
  11. of Minnesota.  Gopher is a method of publishing information on the Internet in
  12. an easy-to-use hierarchy structure.

  14. Gopher and its Macintosh client software called TurboGopher were developed by
  15. the University of Minnesota.  With this freely distributed application,
  16. Internet users can browse through published information, search the Tech Info
  17. Library using keyword searches, or download Apple software updates.

  19. Apple chose the Home Gopher Server as the first Internet "site" to publish
  20. information because Apple's Higher Education Marketing group has had a presence
  21. there for nearly a year.  Further, a recent article in MacUser magazine
  22. referred readers to the Home Gopher Server to browse the limited Apple
  23. information which was there from the Higher Education marketing group.

  25. Apple plans to publish support information to many online services in the next
  26. few months.

  28. THE APPLE TECH INFO LIBRARY
  29. The Tech Info Library, located in the Home Gopher Server inside
  30. the Computer Information folder, is Apple's official technical and
  31. support database.  Over 2,300 articles, created or updated within the last
  32. year, cover specifications, frequently asked questions, upgrades and
  33. problem troubleshooting.  Users can either browse through the library by topic
  34. folder or search through the library using keywords.

  36. Locating the Apple Tech Info Library
  37. Apple recommends using the TurboGopher client software to access the Apple Tech
  38. Info Library.  The library is located in the following path:

  44. TurboGopher Client software is available via anonymous File Transfer Protocol
  45. (ftp) to boombox.micro.umn.edu in the /pub/gopher directory.

  53. the Apple Computer Higher Education Gopher Server in the "USA Service,
  54. Support & Training folder."

  68.    versions of Apple software, including most printer drivers, System

  70.    software. Users should be sure to read the Apple Software License
  71.    Agreement, as well the "Contents of this folder" documents before
  72.    downloading.  All files have been uploaded as ".sea" (self-extracting
  73.    archive) files which have then been converted to BinHex (.hqx) format.
